SHE Chicago’s YGAB (Young Gifted and Black) HBCU College Fair

At SHE Chicago we are always looking for opportunities to engage minority youth with college and career opportunities. So, on October 3, 2019 we hosted our first ever YGAB HBCU College fair at Julian High School. The idea for this college fair is that we bring HBCU’s to our students during school hours to maximize reach and impact.

This years college fair hosted Howard University, Alabama A&M, Florida A&M, Morehouse College, Langston University, Fisk University, Tennessee State, Southern A&M, Prairie View A&M, Jackson State University, Tuskegee University, Rust College, Clark Atlanta University and Hampton University.

Along with access to information and applications to these amazing institution we were happy to provide college preparatory resource tables through our partner organizations Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Beyond College, Scholarship Momma and Closet Diva Prom Boutique. We engaged over 400 students at Julian High School many of whom walked away feeling informed, supported and hopeful for their futures.

“The YGAB college fair at Julian helped connect me to schools that I only saw or heard of on television. It made me curious to see what is like to be around so many black intellectuals.” -Julian High School Senior Class of 2020
