SHE Sisters virtual initiatives such as UGAV have raised significant awareness through social media campaigns, publications of high impact narratives, and artwork from teen female community leaders. Essentially, we help our girls transform their communities, as they see fit, by providing comprehensive training on awareness-based campaigns for teens impacted by current social issues.
SHE Chicago is an organization that prides itself on centering our girls in everything that we do. Many of the initiatives that you see are suggested, designed and implemented by SHE Sisters themselves. We are intentional about ensuring that our girls not only have a platform to share their stories but also a platform to own their advocacy and act on their needs and the needs of their communities.

GOAL 3
With pink fists held high, our girls seek to raise awareness through social media campaigning, publications of high impact narratives and artwork from teen female community members and comprehensive training of building awareness based campaigns for teens impacted by the myriad of social issues that our country faces today.
YLAC #YoungLatinaAwarenessCommittee
Our organization is 12% Latina and 88% African American. This committee is student driven and seeks to raise awareness of issues facing the Latina community. It is led by our Latina SHE Sisters with the support of our African American SHE Sisters. We have also partnered with Latina community leaders to support its development.
URBAN GIRLS AGAINST VIOLENCE
URBAN GIRLS AGAINST VIOLENCE
In May of 2020 SHE Chicago lost two of our beloved SHE Sisters, Tajanay Samuels and Antwainisha Bratcher, to gun violence in Chicago’s South Chicago Community. Reeling from the loss, we travelled to Washington D.C and on August 28, 2020 participated in the March on Washington where we were featured in The Washington Post for our commitment to eradicating violence toward racially and socioeconomically marginalized people.
Following the March, SHE Sisters were adamant about further exploring the experiences of teen girls impacted by community violence. Upon our return to Chicago we created Urban Girls Against Violence, an anti-violence initiative designed to “amplify the voices of teen girls affected by community violence”. This student driven platform raises awareness and promotes urgency around responding to the needs of our most marginalized women as it relates to the violence of urban communities.
COMMUNITY CLEAN UPS
100% of our participants live in marginalized communities. This initiative is also student driven and will support beautification efforts of their home communities. Last spring, we piloted this initiative with our South Shore Community Clean-Up. Our objective is to extend our clean up support to communities that serve as home to other SHE Sisters such as Englewood, North Lawndale and Auburn Gresham.
